Panther's Win Gold in Fort Erie
The Fonthill Dental Pelham Panthers had a great time this past weekend in Fort Erie.  The boys played in the Greater Fort Erie Winter Challenge and came away winning the tournament in a thrilling final against Hamilton.

The road to the finals wasn't easy.  Round robin play saw the Panthers finish as the 3rd seed going into the semi-finals.  The Panthers first round robin game come against Oakville.  The boys had a 2-0 lead going into the third, but surrendered 2 goals to ultimately tie 2-2.  Their next game was against the Dorchester Dragons.  Dorchester had just recently beat the panthers in a shootout one weekend prior so the boys were looking for redemption.  This helped motivate the boys as they beat Dorchester in convincing fashion, 5-2.  Their next round robin game was one they couldn't lose if they wanted to make it through to the next round.  It was against the Waterloo Ice Wolves.  This was a very close game that came down to the final minutes.  With a couple minutes left in the game, Pelham pulled their goalie and scored to tie it up at 3-3, which would be the final score.

In the semi-finals Pelham played against a team from St. Catharines.  This was another exciting game, that saw Pelham tie it up late to take the game to overtime and then ultimately a shoot-out.  Scoring was a rarity in the game and the shootout was no different.  Zach Smith scored on Pelhams final shot, and Evan MacPherson stopped all three shooters he faced to secure the win.

The finals saw Pelham match up against an undefeated Hamilton team.  The teams traded scoring chances all game but had to settle for a 1 to 1 tie after regulation.  There were plenty of posts, goal line saves and nice plays, but the teams just couldn’t score.  This game also ended up going to a shootout.  Pelham’s three shooters; Joey Loscavo, Campbell Veld, and Zach Smith all scored on nifty moves.  Hamilton’s first two shooters scored and their fate came down to their last shooter.  Jake Nunn made the save and the boys were victorious!

It was a great weekend for the team,  every player played to their best ability.  The goalies played amazing and this win was a total team effort.  Great job boys!
