The Pelham Panthers Bantam AE hockey team, sponsored by Fonthill Dental, is continuing where it left off in OMHA playoffs.  The team made the 3 hour journey to Huntsville Saturday to kick off the finals.  The first period saw Pelham outplay Huntsville a majority of the time, but couldn't capitalize on their chances.  This trend carried on into the 2nd period, but was finally broken when Noah Overbeeke had his shot deflected by a Huntsville defender and into the top corner.  This would be the only scoring as the boys went back to the dressing room for intermission.  As has been the case for most of the playoffs, the boys came out flying in the 3rd period.  Just over 2 minutes into the period, a great rush down the wing by Denver Parent led to a goal by Braeden Prout.  Just 40 seconds later, Zach Smith would score to give the Panthers a 3 goal lead.  The boys then found themselves penalty killing a 5 on 3 with 8 minutes to go.  This didn't faze the team, as Noah Overbeeke scored from centre ice on a shot that the goalie definitely wish he had back.  This put the game away as Pelham went on to win by a final score of 4-0.  Evan MacPherson was great in goal, making a highlight reel save in the 2nd period worthy of being in the TSN top 10.

The 2nd game was the first one in Pelham.  A huge thank-you to all the parents who went out of their way to organize everything for this game.  Former NHL player and coach, Steve Ludzik was on hand to drop the ceremonial puck.  After a little ceremony and Oh Canada, the game was under way.  Huntsville jumped out to an early lead to make it 1 nothing.  Not to be outdone, Joey Loscavo scored moments later to tie the game up at 2.  In the 2nd period, Zach Smith scored on a breakaway to give Pelham the lead going into the 3rd period.  In the 3rd, Smith would score again to give Pelham a 2 goal lead.  Huntsville responded with a goal of their own to make it 3-2.  Harry Steven put away any notion of a comeback as he scored on a shoot from the top of the circle.  This would be all Pelham needed as they would win by a score of 4-2.  Jake Nunn was great in net for the boys, stopping many great Huntsville chances.

The third game saw Pelham back in Huntsville with an opportunity to sweep.  Pelham got off to a quick start, as Joey Loscavo converted on a Huntsville turnover in their own end.  The teams would trade chances until the 2nd period, when Huntsville converted on one of their chances.  The teams went back to the dressing room at intermission all tied up.  Huntsville scored 30 seconds into the 3rd period to take a 2 to 1 lead.  They wouldn't give up any more goals and held off the Panthers last minute push.  Huntsville took game 3 by a score of 2-1.  Evan MacPherson was solid in net and stopped many difficult Huntsville shots.

Pelham now comes home for game 4 with an opportunity to win the series at home.  Come cheer the boys on this Friday March 27th @ 7:00 pm!  Go Panthers Go!
