PMHA Announces Donation to Community Centre Project
Submitted By PMHA on Fri 05 12, 17
On May 11, 2017, The Pelham Minor Hockey Association formally announced our support of and long term commitment to the new Pelham Community Centre project by presenting our financial contribution to the fundraising campaign, during a gathering at Pen Lakes Golf Club.

The PMHA joined other local community leaders, citizens, groups and businesses from Pelham yesterday at the "Thanks a Million Pelham" celebration, who have committed to make this facility a centrepiece for the Town of Pelham and surrounding area with these various substantial financial contributions to this capital fundraising initiative.

The Main Entrance and large outdoor plaza area on the North Side of the Pelham Community Centre will forever now be known as the Pelham Minor Hockey Plaza & Entrance.

It had been indicated many years ago that the PMHA's financial support of a new arena project would be valued and would show important support to and for the community and the project, and being able to give back to a project such as this financially was committed to by past Board members, and many volunteers within the PMHA community. For over 13 years, the PMHA Board has actively maintained a reserve fund to be ready for the day when the opportunity to contribute and support such a project emerged.

May 11th, 2017 was that day.

Finally, after all these years of thought, effort, planning, decisions, and after all of the hours of work put in by volunteers to get a dollar here, or save a few bucks there - never mind the tremendous efforts of those who have run the Silver Stick Tournament with profitability year after year after year - which also contributes greatly to this total - the PMHA was able to finally say that we want to step to the forefront of the Pelham community and lead by example, and give our "brick in the wall" towards the completion of our new building in Pelham.

This named area at the main entrance will serve as a permanent legacy piece / location that our past and present PMHA members, Boards, and volunteers will have created and made possible, and will ensure that the PMHA has a prominent place in this wonderful project that has been cast in stone for the future. What a tremendous opportunity to show the community that we want to give and support and be leaders in getting this project to completion.

The PMHA will have many more details announced regarding our contribution at our AGM next Tuesday night, where Mayor Dave, Coun. Durley and Martin van Zon will be present to officially announce the details of our contribution to our PMHA membership, and make a short presentation to the PMHA membership as well as take questions.

The project is currently on budget, and on time, and in one hockey season from now, our new home will be ready for us and everyone else to come and play in and enjoy!

And for people who enter the building, they will be walking through the Pelham Minor Hockey Plaza & Entrance to get there, and we are very honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the community support network who have come forward to date with a financial donation.

The PMHA is also in the unique situation where the membership we represent obviously will be in a position to benefit greatly from a new facility, and it was extremely humbling yesterday to see the amount of support being given this project by community businesses and citizens who have also chosen to contribute each for their own reason.  The PMHA cannot thank these individuals enough who have stepped forward to support this project and give our hockey players a great place to play.
