The Pelham Bantam AE Panthers have won the 2017 OMHA Championship this afternoon, as the team travelled to Gravenhurst today for game 3 of the OMHA Finals against the South Muskoka Bears. The Panthers skated away with a hard fought 4-2 win.
The team and the large group of fans were able to celebrate the victory, the trophy presentation and the handing out of the Red Hats with many friends and family up north and displaying the green & white of the Pelham Panthers.
The Panthers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period as the teams both had many glorious scoring chances and strong goaltending thwarted those attempts. The Bears were able to tie the score before the period ended.
South Muskoka grabbed the 2-1 lead in the second, but Pelham managed to fight back quickly to tie it at 2. The Panthers were able to bang one in before the period closed to go to the intermission up 3-2.
Pelham came out strong in the third period and posted a goal very quickly. The Panthers were then able to go into a strong defensive mode, giving up very few chances the rest of the way, and held the 4-2 lead until the final buzzer.
The players and coaches had a great playoff run this season and it culminated with today's memorable victory.
Congratulations to all of the players on the team and to Coaching Staff members Len, Austin, Michael and Tony on a great accomplishment !!!
