Pelham Panthers leave their Mark in St Mary's
The Peewee Panthers AE played their best hockey to date over the weekend at a Tournament in St Mary's.
Excitement, effort, heart and determination are just some of the characteristics the Peewee Panthers showed over the weekend. They started the tournament off on Friday against The Penetang Flames with a 1-0 victory. Outstanding effort from Owen Nicholls keeping the puck out of our net. The Boys then skated to a 2-2 Tie against the host team from St Mary's. Offensive forecheck and hussle from Jake Steveson contributed to this outcome. Saturday afternoon, we met a team from Ilderton and skated to a 3-1 victory. Great scoring from Colton Sawatzky carried us throught this game. Our next hill to climb was the rematch with St Mary's in the semi-finals on Sunday Morning. The boys played to expectations and won a close game 4-3. Contributions from the entire team made this our best effort yet. Our first tournament, and we're in the finals. After a long wait through the afternoon, the Panthers started to mentally prepare for their opponents from Mitchell. The Mitchell team was also undeafeated in the tournament. In Fact, this team was also undefeated this year in their league and are also the 2014/15 OMHA champions. we knew we were in tough. Mitchell took the lead in the 2nd period on the PP. The Panthers came out flying in the 3rd and outplayed Mitchell for most of the period. With 1:30 left in the game, Pelham pulled the goalie and went on the attack scoring with 50 seconds left in the game. Nothing was resolved in a 5 minute overtime and the Game was decided by a shootout with our boys coming 1 goal short. Hearts were broken and the team was exhausted. This was an exciting weekend for the team and the supporting parents. Thanks to everyone for a great weekend
