PrintNew to Hockey & 4-6 Yr old Registration info

New 4-6 year Olds (Initiation Level)  -  U5 (Pelham Hockey School) and U7 (Junior Panthers)

  • Participants should have basic skating skills prior to considering signing up with PMHA Hockey School or Junior Panthers programs.  Children need to be able to be on the ice without a parent and must be able to fall down, stand
up, move on their own and be independent on the ice.   Our hockey programs teach hockey skills, we would advise starting with a Learn-to-Skate program if your child needs to learn skating skills.
  • Ice times are approximately two times per week, one on a week night, generally Thursday, and Saturday mornings
  • Every player takes a turn at being the goalie
  • Assessments will be conducted at the start of the season to ensure every child is in the correct division.
  • jersey and socks are included with registration, however, they will not be given out at the first couple of assessment skates
  • Please note - The PMHA reserves the right to refund registration monies if determined that a participant cannot
meet these criteria within the first month of the program.
  • Please review the below divisions in order to know which one to register your child for.  If you are still unsure please email the Registrar.

RETURNING 5-6 YEAR OLD PLAYERS
will need to choose either U5 (Pelham Hockey School) or U7 (Junior Panthers) when you register in Hockey Canada, please review the below skill descriptions in order to best register your child for their skill level and then click the Register button.

Division Skills

U5 (Hockey School)
is for all 4 year olds and any 5 & 6 year olds that are new to hockey.

Participants can be moved to Junior Panthers if skills indicate such.  If you are unsure register your child in Hockey School during the assessment skates, if appropriate a move to Junior Panthers can occur.

We follow the predesigned Hockey Canada program for skill building at this age, there are no formal games or travelling involved.

All ice times are in the Meridian Community Centre in Pelham.

This program will see the players always on the ice together in one group. This level is strictly about learning the skills of hockey through small area games, skill stations and is all about having fun and learning!

U7 (Junior Panthers) is for 5 & 6 year olds; a participant can be moved to Hockey School if more work on their skills would be best for them.  Players at this level are generally not in their first year of hockey.

This program will be compliant with the Hockey Canada regulations of half ice programming.

Players will participate on teams with a Coach and a Trainer. The team will be comprised of 12 participants.  Games will be played with rotating 5 players and a rotating goalie.

Players will participate in cross ice games after the first few weeks.

This level will be “in house” only for the first half of the season.  Teams are allowed to participate in Jamboree’s during the second half of the season.

VERY IMPORTANT STEP
Once you have
completed your child's registration on Hockey Canada please return and click the Respect in Sport link below
. A parent must complete a Respect in Sport – Parent version on-line tutorial in order for your child’s registration to be considered complete. It should take under an hour to complete. PMHA does not need a copy of the certificate as it automatically uploads to the child's profile.  Only one certificate is required per family. If a parent has already completed this for another child the certificate can be linked to the new participant's registration, click here for further instructions.  There is a minimal on-line fee for this.
